A road near Measham which has seen several accidents in recent months is being looked at by Leicestershire County Council. The A444 near Stretton en le Field has been the site of six incidents in the past year - prompting the highways authority to look at what could be done to make the stretch safer. The accident record for the road, requested by Ashby Monitor reads one slight accident in 2009, five slight accidents in 2010, two slight accidents in 2011 and 2012, four slight accidents in 2013 and four slight accidents and one serious accident in 2014 to date. Leicestershire Police are also currently appealing for witnesses following a crash at the site on October 7. A county council spokesman said: “Overall, the A444 is one of the safer routes and is consequently not currently a cause for concern. “However, the bend 700 m south of the Stretton en le Field junction has suffered six accidents in the last 12 months and we are currently looking at what, if anything, we can do to reduce this number. “We continue to monitor accidents across the whole of the network and promote accident reduction schemes at the worst sites.”
