A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours. Kevin De Bruyne returned to training today for the first time since he flew home early from Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Asia with an injury. The Belgian midfielder is expected to be part of the Blues squad that heads to the USA this week. Chelsea are prepared to reject bids from Bayern Munich and Barcelona for David Luiz, with Jose Mourinho seeing the Brazilian defender as a key part of his team. Barcelona have been linked with the defender after their first choice Thiago Silva opted to stay at PSG. Juan Mata is also part of Mourinho’s plans for next season, with the Portuguese manager indicating that the midfielder will play on the right side. Mourinho used both Damien Duff and Arjen Robben as inverted wingers in his first spell at Chelsea, and suggested he would use Mata in a similar manner. Chelsea are planning to wait until after Wayne Rooney plays in Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial match next week before submitting a new bid for the Manchester United striker. Mourinho has previously said that Rooney is Chelsea’s key target this summer, whilst David Moyes has been insistent that the striker is not for sale. Moyes has denied reports that the Rooney transfer saga has caused a rift between him and Mourinho, and declared his admiration for the Chelsea manager. The two will have a chance to go head to head on the pitch early in the season, with Mourinho taking Chelsea to Old Trafford on the 26th August. Chelsea are reportedly keeping tabs on Roma defender Leandro Castan, with the 26-year-old possibly being monitored as a replacement for David Luiz should the Brazilian defender end up leaving the club. Castan joined Roma last summer from Corinthians, and made his debut for Brazil in October. Jose Mourinho has said he expects Didier Drogba to return to Chelsea at some point once he finishes playing football. On HITC today we look at the reports saying Chelsea will delay a fresh bid for Rooney, and also five Bayern Munich players the Blues could try and involve in a deal for David Luiz. We also have quotes from Luiz suggesting he is happy at Chelsea, and five facts about Leandro Castan.
