A runner with bad knees was told bad knees are genetic. Any truth to this? Here is what the doc says Knee problems, foot issues, back problems.....they can all be related to anatomical attributes which are passed down in your genes from your parents. These genes can put you at risk for things like flat feet, bowed knees, short legs, scoliosis etc. These anatomical variants can then predispose you to developing conditions such as painful bunions on your feet, arthritis in your knees or disc degeneration in your back. If these anatomical traits are recognized and balanced early on you can help the person prevent the condition from developing or worsening. For example....we can make custom orthotics to help flat feet and bunions, custom orthotics can also help align your knees which then distributes stress evenly during running and walking thus preventing arthritis and conditions such as scoliosis can be treated with spinal adjustments and strengthening exercises to help balance the spine and reduce pain. sdri.net
