A sad but uplifting farewell to Phillip Hughes. He crammed an amazing life into 25 years. Macksville can be proud of the goodbye and celebration. Internationally embraced... his spirit will accompany many to crease and beyond. The essence of the game... all of the traits and qualities that we love about cricket, character and empathy. To Phillip it was a natural external expression of the inner-self. And backed up with his trade mark smile... yet I suspect a sense of mischief was never to far away. We all loved you, well miss you... but never forget you. Everyone who spoke did so with wonderful insight and acute story- they made tears flow... yet at times we were able to smile through those tears. Michael Clarke showed again, as he has for the past week, great leadership. He stepped up when he needed to and displayed much strength, love, humility and sadness. Now our captain needs to spend time on re-energising his body and mind, for the battles ahead. To help cricket heal as well as his hamstring. And most importantly to lead Australia throughout an emotional roller-coaster and crowded summer. Players will follow a man like this. They will honour their fallen mate and get back to playing cricket. Good luck.
