A sad day for the town, not over yet robinsons will re submit plans KUS has won its Judicial Review of SLDCs decision to grant permission for a large supermarket with underground car park on the site of the old Brewery site. The Judge has ordered that the decision be quashed. The Judge agreed with KUS that SLDC failed to take into account the potential harm to the conservation area and heritage assets. He also agreed that SLDCs EIA screening was defective. We have said all along that the scheme was too large, too destructive and too disruptive for that site and would cause long-term detriment to our conservation area and the towns vitality. It was clear that Robinsons wanted to shoehorn as big a development as possible into the site in order to earn them more money. We are delighted that the Judge agrees with our challenge, and hope now that what happens is that the site is developed soon, but along lines which dont destroy all that is still worth preserving on the site, and for uses which will benefit the town overall, now and into the future. Thank you to all of you who have given support, time, funds and encouragement. Its been a very long haul, and we couldnt have done it without you. We are now off to have a small glass of something to celebrate.
