A salute this evening to a true Huck’s Hero, Keshia Thomas. The BBC reports that she was just 18 back in 1996, and taking part in an anti-KKK rally in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The crowd spotted a white man in a Confederate flag shirt and started yelling, “Kill the Nazi!” They knocked him to the ground and began beating him. Keshia said it was barbaric. She knew what it was like to be attacked. So this black teenager threw herself over the alleged racist, shielding him from harm and shaming his attackers into backing off. Since then, the photo of her protecting him has inspired a lot of people to be kinder. The BBC tracked Keshia to Houston, where she now lives. She says she never saw that man again, but his son came to her once and thanked her. She still tries to do something to break down racial stereotypes every day. No grand gestures. She said sometime, The biggest thing you can do is just be kind to another human being.” Keshia, sometimes that little act of kindness can be the grandest gesture of all.
