A salute to heroes By Robbie Pangilinan HERO (Help Educate and Rear Orphans) Foundation, Inc. celebrated its silver anniversary with a concert titled “Saludo” yesterday at the Glorietta Activity Center. The night of music and recognition aimed to express gratitude to fallen soldiers who are recognized as heroes and donors of the foundation who are known as today’s heroes. Hosted by TJ Manotoc and Kat Ilano, Saludo was topbilled by John Lesaca, Mark Bautista, Chad Borja, Jinky Vidal, Top Suzara, Princess velasco, Young JV, 6CYCYLEMIND, Banda ni Kleggy, and Harana. “If there is anyone out there who still doubts that the Philippines is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our heroes is alive in our time, Saludo is for you,” said HERO Foundation Board Member Migs Belmonte. “Thank you for being a HERO to our Heroes’ children!” Said PCSO Chairman Margie Juico. Sponsored by Philstar, Globe, Ayala Malls, Glorietta, Ayala Center, Nuvali, The Landmark, Cobra, and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Saludo is the highlight of the foundation’s 25th year celebration. Organized in 1988 by the late President Corazon C. Aquino and her former Defense Secretary General Renato De Villa together with well-respected businessmen Don Jaime Zobel de Ayala, Henry Sy Sr., Washington SyCip, Patricio Lim, and Raul Concepcion, HERO Foundation provides educational assistance in the form of stipends to children and dependent siblings of Filipino soldiers killed in action (KIA) or totally incapacitated while in line of duty. HERO aims to help these children obtain a college or university degree, or a certificate in a vocational course, in order to give them a competitive chance in finding good and decent jobs or profession. This will in turn provide them a better opportunity to help their families and become productive members of our society.
