A scale can tell me my weight, and its 100% the truth... but the scale can do nothing about my weight! It shows me that I am 3 (OK, you got me... 30!) pounds off the mark, but it can do nothing about it. I can yell at the scale all I want, or ignore what it says, but that will never change the truth: Ive missed the mark. Same with the law. Gods law is good, just and holy, and it tells me the truth 100% of the time. It shows me how Ive missed the mark (whether by failing at one law or by 613 laws), but it can never do anything about it. The truth still remains the truth: Ive missed the mark. Enter Jesus. While the law could never do anything about my missing the mark, Jesus could (and did) do something! For what the law could not do... God did by sending His own Son (Rom 8:3). Even though I never fulfilled the righteous requirement of the law, it was fulfilled in me all because God did a major work on sin through Jesus. If I look to that old scale... Oh the horror! It will show me things I dont want to see! But if I look to Jesus, I will understand that that old scale was taken out of the way and replaced with the perfection of Jesus!
