A section of members of the East African Legislative Assembly - TopicsExpress

A section of members of the East African Legislative Assembly is proposing amendments in the assembly’s treaty as a solution to the current standoff. Uganda’s representative to the assembly Susan Nakawuki is proposing that the treaty empowers the regional presidents to recall their representatives if they misbehave. Nakawuki says this will enable them to reign in on errant legislators who are fronting their personal egos above the interests of the East African citizens. Her proposal comes a week after the suspension of the Assembly’s speaker Margaret Zziwa who has since been replaced by Chris Opoka as interim for 21 days to allow investigations into her alleged misconduct.
