A senior doctor has defended medics working for the private company which carries out controversial work-capability assessments for the government. BMA civil and public services committee chair Alan Mitchell said the association represented doctors working for Atos Healthcare, which has come under fire for assessing people as fit for work when they are not. Dr Mitchell said: ‘We are clear that the problem with the work-capability assessment process is the process itself; don’t direct criticism at the doctors working for Atos.’ bma.org.uk/news-views-analysis/news/2013/june/doctors-not-to-blame-for-fitness-to-work-failure
