A sense of humor and a knack for not taking ourselves too seriously are essential for maintaining a relationship with God. St. Teresa of Avila serves as a good model for us. A well known story about Teresa tells us about a time when she was knocked off her horse and hurt herself in the fall. She turns to God, saying, Why do you treat me like this?
