A series of studies have shown that your mindset can extend your cognitive and physical limits. In one study, participants took a test while watching letters flash by on a screen. Though the letters flashed too quickly to be read, one group was told that they were seeing and subconsciously absorbing the answers to the test; the other group was told that the flashes just signaled a new question. Though the flashes contained only gibberish, the group that believed they saw answers performed better on the test. In another study, hotel room attendants who were told that the exercise they got at work met the Surgeon General’s recommendations for healthy lifestyle lost weight and saw blood pressure drops compared to a control group, even though their physical habits didn’t change. Are you surprised to hear how much your mindset can affect your performance? Share this post with friends and let us know in the comments.
