A series of weather systems are forecast to make an assault on the very persistent west coast high pressure ridge that has kept Northern California mainly dry for nearly two months this winter season. The first two will do little to add to this winters precipitation totals but may aid in breaking down the ridge. The third assault is forecast to come in as a combination of a couple different disturbances which may be able to tap into enough tropical moisture and energy to bring a significant rainfall to much of northern California this coming Thursday and Friday. Weather models now indicate that the Northern California storm door will open at least briefly by the end of this week. How long it stays open remains to be seen. SA#44
