A serious look at how technological advance is undermining human opportunity. bit.ly/1haCHc4 The Worsening Have/Have-Not Divide and Technological Advance In countless places around the world the inequality problem with its growing gap between the haves and have-nots threatens human welfare and raises the risk of extremely dangerous conflicts between the rich and the poor. A big part of the problem is attributable to technological advances that are rapidly replacing human opportunities with automated machines. Such advances have, obviously, characterized the evolution of the modern world and underlie the prosperity that so many of us enjoy. Still, there is good reason to believe that the rate of change is exceeding the ability of the economy to adapt in ways that provide the employment opportunities that are critical to meeting fundamental human needs. The Aspen Institute has made a serious effort to to start an in-depth examination of this critically important issue.
