A service dog named Mandy has been missing near Algonquin Parkway since Christmas Eve. The owner, Alberto Santiago, says he was going into a friends house off Algonquin Parkway near I-264 on Christmas Eve when a large truck came by and scared the dog. He says she was outside going to the bathroom. “A truck came by the highway and made a big giant boom sound. She just took off,” Alberto Santiago told WDRB News. Santiago searched all day Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for the small, six-pound Fox Terrier. “She has a white patch on her chest, big old fox ears, beautiful fox nose, eyes, she has a curly tail,” said Santiago. Santiago and Mandy have been together for nine months. His heart stopped in March and was in a coma for three months. When he woke up the dog was sitting next to his shoulder. His doctors told him she was his new partner because of his heart disease. “We bonded from day one,” Santiago recalled. Not only does Mandy help with small everyday tasks like getting his slippers, but shes also trained to save his life. “She stays right here, detects if Im ever going through a seizure or if somethings going on with my heart,” said Santiago.
