A short article on John Quincy Adams, the American Ambassador to the Court of Czar Alexander I. John Quincy Adams (the son of John and Abigail Adams) is shown at the end of this clip from the HBO miniseries, John Adams; I highly recommend viewing this miniseries; it is exceptional. John Quincy Adams and Czar Alexander I hit it off. It was also said, Czar Alexander I greatly admired the grace, intellect and charm of the Ambassadors wife, Louisa Adams. The Czar and the Ambassador would stroll the Neva in the mornings and agree upon their mutual appreciation for thermal undergarments and their aversion for balls. I chose this clip for several reasons; one of which shows two amazing minds who risked everything and stood by their principles. Both men were intellectual geniuses. Their correspondences over the many years are brilliant and beautiful. LISTEN to their words of wisdom. It comes from their triumphs and sadly, countless tragedies. These men were survivors. Despite their disagreements they remained friends and admirers of one another. Quite astonishing is that both these men were to die on the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1826. John Adams last words are reported to have been Jefferson survives...his friend had died earlier that day in his beloved Monticello in Virginia and the news had not reached Quincy, Massachusetts. Incredible.. This article is but one of many that are very accessible on the internet. jb-russianreflections.blogspot/2011/05/john-quincy-adams-in-russia-part-ii.html
