A short film presented by VOGUE India I read this brilliant article a little while back, written by a male who was trying to explain to other males about the day-to-day struggles/challenges (whatever you may call them), women face regarding basic life situations. For example, how women have to think twice as much about the clothes choices they make, to how they feel walking in an abandoned street alone at night in comparison to how a male would feel, etc. His aim was very positive. He argued, guys simply dont understand that sometimes they seem like a threat to women even if they mean no harm and that bothered him a lot. He said, he didnt even know that he could make someone feel threatened simply by his presence. It bothered him that guys have it easy and that women have to face such challenges. He said, for a guy, I get up, I dress how I want, I can be out alone till 4 in the morning without fear, its just things I dont think about. He explained how easy life was for men. His mission was to help guys understand how women think and feel regarding such situations so they could help make them feel safer by altering their body language and behavior. He said, he didnt have to worry about walking the streets alone at night, or about stepping into an elevator full of men and feeling uneasy, etc. Ill have to dig through my archives to find the article but, this short film reminded me of that. What do you make of this short film? I would love to hear perspectives from both guys and girls. For me, my heart literally dropped (I dont want to ruin it for those who havent watched it), but Im sure if a guy watches this, he wont feel the same way that I did. At all. MUST FIND THAT ARTICLE.
