A short history. 1960-61 jasper shells, three ply, Swivomatic hardware. Drawback... B&B lugs. Introduces the Dyna-Sonic. Cleveland Tags 1961-63 The keller three ply shell with the 1/16th double cut bearing edge. Swivomatic hardware,, Drawback is still B&B lugs. 1963-64/65 Keller Three ply shell, the Rogers Edge, Swivomatic, Rogers introduces the Beavertail lug. They are now the Cadillac of Drums. Drawback, you can only afford Ludwig. 1965-66... The Keller five ply MBMBM (Thank you Harry ) shell with the Rogers edge. Still Cleveland Tags. Ben Strauss sells to CBS in 1966. Drawback... You dont like the ludwigs you could afford. 66-67 Cleveland Dayton transition period. No real changes to the drums. Some minor improvements to hardware over the past two years. Drawback, You now hate Ludwig. 68-69 Dayton speckled gray interiors, minor changes, drums are basically the same. Rogers has a second transition period with a move to Fullerton Ca in 1969. 1969-1972. Some hardware changes. Cost cutting by the parent company begins to show in once machined parts are now cast and made less expensively. Still Great Drums. Drawback, you sold the ludwigs and your car and bought Rogers. Thats not really a drawback 1972-75, The 9/72 period. Catalog is 1973. Cast collet Tensioners, some quality issues from time to time, but great drums. Three ply shells. Drawback ... the cast tensioners. The cast knobby floor tom mounts are a success. 1975-79 Early Big R period. Memriloc Hardware, five ply shells, a rock solid set up. Drawback, Some people dont like Memriloc. 1979-84. Late Big R Period... The XP8 drums, Eight Ply All American maple. Quite possibly the best drums Rogers ever built. And excellent buy in vintage. Return of the wood Dyna-Sonic, introduces the wood SuperTen. And is gone by june/July 1984. Forever. See, I told you it was complicated.
