A show not to be missed One of the most iconic and influential traditional Irish music groups ever to emerge in the US for a long time now is the superb Irish American group known as Mick Moloney and the Green Fields of America. Founded by former Johnstons Folk Group member Mick Moloney in 1978 the group are coming to Ireland for the first time to play at a special Gathering concert to be held in the Tommy Leddy Theatre in Drogheda on Saturday June 8th, as part of the Johnstons Folk Music Festival, taking place over the weekend 7th, 8th and 9th of June coming in Slane County Meath. The current line up of the Green Fields of America is an impressive one, featuring some of the very best musicians playing Irish traditional music in the world today. Their repertoire of reel, jigs, hornpipes and slow airs are accompanied by some very exciting and vibrant Irish step dancing from world champion step dancers is a joy to witness and hear. The group line up playing at the concert on the night in Drogheda are: Mick Moloney – Tenor banjo/vocals Athena Tergis – Fiddle Billy Mc Comiskey – Button accordion Liz Hanley – Fiddle/vocals Robbie O Connell – Guitar/Vocals Donna Long – Keyboard/Vocals John Doyle – Guitar Tim Collins – Concertina Jerry O Sullivan – Uilleann pipes There will also be a number of special guests who are household names and very well known to Irish audiences across the country performing at the concert on the night thus making it one of the great Gathering concerts happening anywhere in Ireland this year.
