An understanding of emotion recognition is important because it provides a foundation for teachers and allied health professionals to develop strategies for teaching social skills. Uljarevic and Hamilton (2013) found that recognition of happiness was only marginally impaired in individuals with ASD compared with the general population. The ability to recognise fear, in contrast, was significantly reduced.
