A simple question.. When I started driving HGVs (in the late 1980s) and went over to Europe...we had numerous customs procedures to do (at many borders..in various languages) did fuel declarations (Tanksheins) TIR /ATA Carnets...T forms...carried a pretty well equipped tool box ( to fix the dam thing on the road...or help (yep HELP) another driver...changed our own tyres..lugged underpowered..heavy trucks up and down mountains...loaded/unloaded our own trailers etc etc etc. Today the vehicles are so complex you need a software engineer with a laptop to fix it...are prohibited from changing a tyre..(health and safety)...Run all the way across the EU on a single CMR...dont use Maps due to Sat Navs being better at getting you lost/in a tight spot...the load is done by some one else at a distribution point...and loaded by another.... Many new vehicles are now Automatic so no gear changing by the donkey in the front...So exactly what can you be taught with 35 hrs of Training that is of any use to Improve your driving skills? If anything there is less to learn now...than then?
