A single verse from Proverbs stuck in my mind this morning. A - TopicsExpress

A single verse from Proverbs stuck in my mind this morning. A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight. When studying this passage we learn that a false balance refers to a scale that is purposely weighted in favor of the one doing the measuring. In Solomons days commerce would often be conducted in trading one good for another. The way to determine the transfer amount was to weigh the items being exchanged. It became the practice of some to alter the scale so as to benefit themselves. This led to extra profits. Contrast that with a just weight which is a delight to the Lord. So what does that have to do with followers of Christ today? It has to do with our attitudes. So many people today look for loopholes when it comes to exchanges with others. These exchanges may be financial, relational, emotional or work related. People try to push as hard as they can to get the upper hand, almost to the brink of stealing or doing something illegal. The quest is to see how far you can go before going too far. That is false balance. Contrast that with just weight. Just weight is looking for the fair and equitable outcome for all parties involved. It is the practice of win/win. So, which of these approaches describes you? I know for FAR too long in my life I almost always sought to have the upper hand in dealings with others. This was often applauded by others as being shrewd. As I continue to study Gods Word I have come to realize that it is an abomination to Him. God wants us to live justly. He also tells us in Philippians 2:3-4 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Our world would be such a better place if everyone lived by these words. I know the world wont, but I also know that I can, and all who profess Christ as Lord and Savior should. What about you? God Bless,
