A six board chest/bench for Lady Phyllis. This is what I came up - TopicsExpress

A six board chest/bench for Lady Phyllis. This is what I came up with for a simple six board chest that will double as a camp bench. The milk paint is coated with a linseed oil - bees wax mixture. It brought out a little bit of sheen and deepened the color a great deal. This mixture was mentioned by someone in a recent post and I then remembered I had a cake of Gunny Wax already mixed up from years ago. I made it for walnut gunstocks and it is equal parts of beeswax, linseed oil and turpentine melted together and allowed to gel. An old gun collector gave me the recipe and his gunnery sergeant had given it to him during WWII. I suspect this basic recipe has been around for eons. BTW, hardware is cheap cast iron stuff that I bought on sale from VanDykes. The cut nails with forged heads come from the Tremont Nail Company.
