A small study of pregnant women and depression from researchers at Brown University found that depressed women who were pregnant were younger, less well off, and more likely to be single than non depressed pregnant women. Depressed women also had increased levels of anxiety and greater problems in their marital/family relationships. The majority of women in the study said they strongly preferred counseling and other non-drug options over using anti-depressants.
