A smarter Fiji By Sanjay Goundar Government’s half billion investment in education sector next year will groom individuals who will be able to take major leadership role in whole of the Pacific. Speaking at the 2013 Vodafone / Westpac Prime Minister Exporter of the Year Awards night at Shangri La’s Fijian Resort in Sigatoka on Saturday Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama told the business community that this investment in the education sector is the boldest and best investment made by any Government in Fiji. Bainimarama stressed that with government taking education to a new level now they are certain that the opportunities for new investment – new growth in our economy - will be even greater. He also pointed out that government is convinced that a smarter Fiji will be better placed to take a leadership role in our region and improve the lives of every Pacific Islander. “We are building a new and better Fiji and all have a stake in that vision. “I appeal to the business community to play your part. Don’t cling to the past because it will not pay dividends. “Now is the time to invest, to ride the wave of new opportunities. Confidence is high. “New levels of prosperity are imminent as we hold Fiji’s first genuine parliamentary elections next year,” he emphasized. The PM told the business tycoons that together, and with his Government’s vision and focus they all can ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for every Fijian, their children and future generations. Meanwhile, locally owned family business Rosie Travel Tours were presented the prestigious Prime Minister’s Exporter of the Year Award. Awards were presented in 12 different categories. Ends
