A sneak peek at Hatchburrow, Book 2 of The Kiyorlin Series. I woke to the touch of cold steel on my throat. A large hand grabbed a handful of my hair and hoisted me to my feet. I knew by the size and strength, not to mention the stench, that my assailant was a troll. They were a good four to six hands taller than the average male elf at nineteen hands and most had the strength of five dwarves. Considering my weight, and the fact that my toes were still on the ground, I concluded that the man holding me wasnt even straining. Sire!! Mikka screamed when he saw the troll holding me. A look of pure hatred took over his features as he focused on the behemoth. You will put my king down, troll, or you will die. The choice is yours. Eelf is keenga? The troll had a raspy, booming voice. Mozlarr keel keenga! Mozlarr...is it? Umm . . . lets uh . . . I was trying to find the right words. Lets not be too hasty with the keeling of the keenga. The keenga kind of likes living. Keenga vant aleeve? Mozlarr tightened his grip and pulled me back toward him as his blade pressed harder, drawing blood. Mozlarr theenk keenga coward. Why he sleep here when hees warriors die for heem? Theyre not dying for me. I reached for the elements. Theyre fighting for their homes. Roots shot from the ground, binding the trolls arms, and pulled him to the ground. His blade sliced my jerkin as he was forced away from me. I spun to face Mozlarr just in time to stop Mikkas dagger from piercing his gray skin. Mikka and the troll both gave me a puzzled look. I shook my head at the assassin and he sheathed his weapon. Keenga no keel Mozlarr? Why keenga not keel chieftain? The troll asked. Why do you attack the dwarves, Mozlarr? I countered. There has been peace for more than five cycles. No one has done anything to break the treaties. This is nothing more than a senseless slaughter. Weetch tell Mozlarr dragon Skaquay not pleased with trolls. He struggled against the roots for a moment then relaxed. Skaquay wants land back from keengas tribes. Sire. Mikka interrupted. There are three dragons attacking the city, but its Ahyendi, not Skaquay. Hatchburrow, Book 2 of The Kiyorlin Series, by Neil Orr ©Copyright 2014
