A solo show by Rashmi Khurana Curated by Rahul Bhattacharya Presented by Niv Art Centre 19 Dec. – 30 Jan, 2014-15 Rashmi Khurana is one of the few artists who challenge the assumptions about femininity and abstraction. Her work is bold and unbound, completely unrestrained by formal academic logic of composition and balance, thus allowing her to explore her own subjectivity and its expressions. My Experiences with Truth’ is a deeply layered series, and can stand as metaphors of space and explorations. Yet it them one can see embedded narratives of moments that are very violent, extremely tender and completely innocent. She is one of the few artists whose works invite the eye to look again and again, each time one notices something new and gets lost in the painting. Her paintings are not just the artist’s expression of being. Instead they are enactments of a different world. Void, searching, also a collapse of rules and barriers become very important concepts in this new world. Each painting is an attempt to go deeper into this universe. Violence, beauty, peace and freedom co-exist in these embedded narratives. The paintings invite the eye to look again and again, each time one notices something new and get lost..
