A spate of violence among Illinois prison inmates over the past - TopicsExpress

A spate of violence among Illinois prison inmates over the past five days has led to five institutions being placed on full or partial lockdown. The Illinois Department of Corrections says the disturbances were not related and no employees were seriously injured. A guard at Stateville Correctional Center was attacked by an inmate Saturday, as was a guard at the Big Muddy Correctional Center in Ina on Thursday. Fights among inmates prompted lockdowns over the weekend at Pinckneyville Correctional Center and Pontiac Correctional Center. Menard prison was on lockdown for 39 hours last week after an inmate struck a guard.
