A special night tonight. Growing up in the 80s, attending Ovilla Road Baptist Church, within our youth group we had an ensemble... New Found Joy. There was singing, drama, The Word, joy, sorrow... many activities, many moments, many memories. I didnt really want to attend tonight.... You see, this period of my life represented some of my most painful memories of me.... This group, New Found Joy, was an escape for me... where I put on a mask. Acting as if I were okay, often times trying to fit in... but, never really feeling as if I did. It was during this time and well into my early 30s...I was having an identity crisis. I so desperately wanted to be something or someone I was not...the problem was... I never could figure out who that was supposed to be. Fast forward to 2014... almost 30 yrs has raced by and each of us has been through the life stuff. We muttled through one of the songs we had done so many years before.... Here We Are Here we are in Your presence Lifting holy hands to You Here we are praising Jesus For the things Hes brought us through Vs I dont have the words to tell you how I feel I just dont know what I can say Im not worthy to speak Your holy name Yet you tell me You love me just the same Vs I never thought it could be this way I never thought Id be the one But You found me dying in my sin And You looked at me with love and took me in. WOW. Kimberly R. Harris said it best tonight.... those words really do take on a more intimate & deeper meaning now. After having experienced the ups and downs of life... it is quite sobering the thoughts of from then to now! As I looked around that room... looking at a few faces I have only seen a few times in the past 28 yrs and some I see regularly. It is medicine to my soul. These people are my people. These people are my friends. These people are just like me... worn by the years but all able to say...... Here we are praising Jesus For the things Hes brought us through.
