A special tree grows each year in every sport. It’s called the coaching tree. Throughout the history of sports, we see a list of coaches who have been trained by other great coaches, who, in turn, continue the legacy to form an incredible tree. In in the cradle of football coaches at Miami of Ohio, we have a Hall of Fame group that have shared the teachings of Bo Schembechler, Woody Hayes, Ara Parseghian, Weeb Ewbank, Paul Brown, Sid Gilman, and others. The coaches who are committed themselves to being taught gained the knowledge they needed to pass along to others are the great mentors of the game. What is important beyond our sport is the opportunity to have an eternal impact. If we live a life pleasing to God, if we spread his word, we then have the opportunity to grow branches that bear fruit for God. If we are committed to gaining godly instruction and setting down deep roots in His knowledge, wisdom, and love we grow new branches for God. As coaches, we know our trees influence greatly in the great games that we coach. Make sure your tree has the roots firmly planted in Gods love, your family, and being a positive influence in the lives of others, both now and eternally.
