A spectator threw bananas at Italian integration minister Cecile Kyenge while she was giving a speech at a party rally on Friday. She has been the victim of racist attacks since becoming Italy’s first black minister in April. Shortly before the incident, members of the right-wing Forza Nuova group left mannequins covered in fake blood at the site of the rally, in protest against Kyenge’s proposal to make anyone born on Italian soil a citizen of the country. Although the bananas missed the stage where Kyenge was, she responded to the gesture on Twitter, calling it “sad” and a waste of food, considering the economic crisis. - death - rt news - july 27th 2013
