A splendid gift for Latvia, the Catalan choir Cor Jove de l’Orfeó Català sings a powerful adaptation of the legendary Latvian song Saule, Pērkons, Daugava (Sun, Thunder, River Daugava). Written by composer Mārtiņš Brauns in 1988, using litterateur Rainis’ lyrics, it has become a symbol of national awakening, a prayer for freedom from Soviet oppression. It was even considered for the national anthem. The Catalan version features lyrics from the poem Meditació última (Final Meditation) by Miquel Martí i Pol; lyrics adapted by Jaume Ayats. Truly touching. Moltes gràcies, Catalunya! :)
