A state Senate panel has unanimously approved legislation to dedicate $195 million in state dollars to Detroits bankruptcy settlement. The Grand Bargain plan would help protect retiree pensions and artwork at the Detroit Institute of Arts. The legislation could come up for a vote in the full senate later today. A controversial bill that would prevent the DIA from renewing its millage in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties was not taken up for a vote in committee. A spokesperson for Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville says that bill is dead.
