A statement has been issued to Ashby Monitor over the padlocking of the gate into the Castle Grounds fields from Prior Park Road. Several readers contacted us over the gate being locked up this week to the fields, which are owned by Leicestershire County Council. A spokesman for the authority told us: The land off Prior Park Road is an area of land owned by the county council which did not transfer when the grammar school took academy status. The roadside gate has been secured many times over the years to prevent unauthorised access. However, access has been gained by the public via a section of adjoining fencing that has been damaged repeatedly and we will continue with routine maintenance of the site. The council is yet to answer whether or not public access is allowed to the site.
