A story I love and hope you will take time to read: Scientists were studying optimists vs. pessimists and decided to try an experiment. How could a total optimist be broken of the feeling of hope? They selected two subjects , one ruled by his pessimistic views and, of course, the other who was a die-hard optimist. The subjects were put into rooms where they could be watched and heard without their knowledge. The rooms were filled with manure..ripe , stinky manure. The pessimist entered and smelled, looked around, frantically tried to clean off the manure that had gotten on his feet and hands. He finally found a corner in the room where he huddled down , weeping and hopeless. Scientists were not surpirsed at all. After all, they believed pessimism to be a strong emotion that led to feelings of total helplessness. Then came the optimist. He , too, was put into a room filled with the same stinky, sticky, yucky manure and was observed. He looked around, smelled the room then looked again and went to the top of the pile and started excitedly digging a hole in the pile of manure , throwing it away from the center area . He was totally covered in manure but he kept going. The scientists saw this and thought yep..we broke him..we broke a strong optimist. Maybe we went too far. Then, using their microphones, they asked the optimist if he was ok (digging in manure had to be a sign of a mental break down). The optimist kept digging as he answered them with the following: underneath all this shit , there has to be a pony somewhere. Im going to find the pony. End of story. But a story that has helped me help others and myself who are feeling totally defeated, by simply using the optimists words..underneath all this shit, there has to be a pony somewhere.
