A story from one of our clients: I attended the showing of The Milky Way this past weekend and was surprised to find out how low the rate of breastfeeding is for babies at 6 months in the United States. My daughter, who is 6 months this week, came down with a sudden case of the throw ups today and after a few sessions of bile and a visibly upset baby, I called my pediatrician. The nurse I spoke to immediately launched into a plan for administering pedialyte to keep her hydrated. When I asked if she recommended it even though I exclusively breastfeed she seemed surprised and said oh you breastfeed? Well then that will be fine just let her nurse a little at a time. I couldnt believe she never asked me how she was fed or what her diet was. I really had no idea it wouldnt be considered standard to be EBF at this age. Thanks to the BRC for helping spread the word and support moms of all types to feed their babies!
