A story reported by The Flash elicits mixed emotions. It reports that the City Council has decided to appoint Police Chief and Interim City Administrator Pat Bridges to be the permanent city administrator (at least until he resigns. The other two finalists, who each had prior experience as actual city managers and were found by the hotshot executive search firm, were evidently deemed less satisfactory. In fact, I find it interesting that the city council spent all this money on a search firm and then rejected every single person selected by the firm. I knew Pat Bridges a little and thought he was a good police chief. How good a city administrator he will prove to be remains to be seen. Normally I would be optimistic. The fact that the writer for the local news paper who so relentlessly smeared me and other city council candidates connected with Tarleton approves the appointment is as good a reason as any to be skeptical. Even though Im disappointed that The Flash takes seriously the drivel of the local news papers writer as she offers her worthless opinion on the appointment, Im glad The Flash got at least one thing right. Rather than follow the local newspapers lead and perpetuate the lie that Mark Kaiser resigned, it admitted that he was dismissed. Btw, the Flash noted that the new city council member whom the public selected to replace me was allowed to skip the meeting and participate via teleconference call and was later allowed to participate via laptop in an executive session. Call me strange--Ive been called a lot worse by the Mayors hit squad on the local newspaper--but I find it strange that suddenly council members get to participate and vote in meetings even when theyre absent. I dunno, but I think if youre elected to office and want to participate, you should at least, you know, kinda show up. I wonder if the dispensation has anything to do with the fact that the council member in question is one of the Mayors closest allies on the council. Would an opponent of the Mayor be granted a similar privilege? Well see. theflashtoday/2015/01/06/pat-bridges-to-be-new-stephenville-city-administrator/
