A strong national economy does not guarantee a financially secure - TopicsExpress

A strong national economy does not guarantee a financially secure populous. In fact, the most prolific periods of our nations history came at the expense of large portions of the population, primarily women, children, minorities, and immigrants. There is a myth circulating that there was a golden time when the free market provided a utopian paradise that was destroyed by labor unions and government regulations. This is simply untrue. This is in no way a defense of the self serving political machine many unions became or the bloated bureaucracy that we call our government. It is, however, a challenge from a degreed student of history to study the exploitative nightmare referred to as the Gilded Age before spouting nonsense about the liberating power of an unregulated and corporate driven free market. And if that is not compelling enough, study the Triangular Trade which gave birth to sweat shops and ethnic based life long slave labor. Do not be fooled. Those promising freedom with the return to a unregulated free market will be the first to put you in shackles to force you to drive their profits. It has happened many times before.
