A subject with a legend..... Bridge of Mary Magdalene is a bridge crossing the Serchio river near the town of Borgo a Mozzano in the Italian province of Lucca. The bridge is a remarkable example of medieval engineering, probably commissioned by the Countess Matilda of Tuscany circa 1080-1100. The bridge is known as Devils Bridge because of a popular legend, reinforced from its strange aspect: a master mason had begun building the bridge but soon he noticed that he would not be successful in completing the work on the fixed day and in fear of the possible consequences, invoked to the Devil asking for aid. The Devil agreed to complete the bridge in a night in exchange for the spirit of the first that would cross it. The contract was signed but the constructor, full of remorse, confessed to a religion in the zone and was advised to let first across the bridge a pig. So the Devil was defeated and he disappeared into the deepness of the river.
