A summary of some research papers presented at the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine -The best evidence available is that the timing of the introduction of food to babies has no correlation with development of food allergies. -Breastfed babies tend to have more jaundice than bottle-fed babies. Babies of Asian descent also have jaundice than non-Asian babies. -The longer you breastfeed a child, the fewer ear, sinus and throat infections that the baby ultimately has. -In hospital use of formula (even one bottle) is associated with earlier cessation of breastfeeding. But if formula is necessary, the use of a cup to feed the baby is preferable over a bottle to avoid disruption of sucking patterns.
