A supporter posted this on a status today and I wanted to share these details :) (this page did not write this Im just sharing information I got :) we are all devastated by what has happened but you need to know the actual facts. We came through Inglewood where the kennels are located Friday pm, we heard about the fire but at that point it was Kersbrook/Sampson Flat with no mention of danger to Inglewood. The owner, a CFS volunteer attended the fire to assist as was requested. He, and CFS had no idea the fire would turn to the south. His captain advised him that the fires were bearing down on his property. He left to find his home and the animals buildings under attack. I was listening to the scanner on Friday overnight as we are in the affected area also. The fire turned quickly and rapidly descended on Millbrook/Inglewood, too fast for anyone to instigate complete evacuation plans. SAAS were unable to enter the vicinity to attend to 000 calls, the firies had to attend and bring people out to a safe point as the road between Inglewood and the top of Chain of Ponds was impassible. They had no option but to flee. The animals were all secured in buildings, which was actually there best chance of survival at that point. It is much easier for CFS to defend a structure than a whole lot of animals running around. One structure did survive which is why we thankfully have 40 dogs who came through this. It is illegal to let loose animals during a Bushfire, they are a huge risk to emergence crews, running frantically along roads and through the fire grounds themselves. It is also much more dangerous for them, they were surrounded by fire, they had nowhere to escape to and most, if not all would have perished. I know there are a lot of raw emotions at the moment with all the here say and rumours floating about on social media so please take everything with a grain of salt. Most people on this thread are animal lovers, none of us wanted to see this happen, and in hindsight Im sure things would have been done differently. The owners of the TTG Kennels are as distraught as the rest of us, they have to live with this for the rest of their lives, long after we have found something else to focus on. Please give them the benefit of the doubt, they were in a no win situation that I doubt any of us would have coped with better. The RSPCA will investigate this, and hopefully then we can use definite facts to inform our decisions for the future
