A survey to assess technology adoption among medicos Monday, September 2, 2013 by Vidhi Rathee New Delhi: Use of modern high-end technology for improved treatment and professional care is rapidly making inroads in medical field. The ease and access to such technology has made the work of doctors easier with even more precise treatment results and further research. However, do we even know how much contented are medicos with the use of new technology and what challenges do they face with newer technological intervention in almost every sphere of treatment? To understand the status of technology adoption amongst doctors, a survey is being conducted by Global Advisory and Associated Services, Disease Management Association of India (DMAI), and Continua Health Alliance, USA on doctors working across both rural and urban areas in India. The survey is expected to help the healthcare policy makers and the industry to make further advancements in this area. In what could be a first ever, the survey aims to check the preparedness of medicos for the increasing penetration of technology in medical field, their expectations from the technology and their future plans for its usage, thus, unravelling these insights to analyse where the technology industry is headed and what it needs to work upon. Rajendra Pratap Gupta, president, Disease Management Association of India (DMAI), told India Medical Times, “This survey can help us decide whether the doctors in India are looking at using electronic medical records, telemedicine and mobile healthcare, and in which areas or whether they are not willing to use it. This is going to be the first, biggest and path breaking study in India for doctors, and we will share the key findings with doctors to enable the fence sitters to take a call on technology adoption.” He added, “We will also share the detailed report along with recommendations with the ministry of health and family welfare to take into consideration the findings of this survey while planning the roadmap and budgets for telemedicine, mHealth, HMIS (health management information system), training and medical education.” The survey, which started on September 1, will be an online survey in the first phase and an offline survey with doctors in the second phase. The online survey, which will run for four weeks from September 1 to September 30 on India Medical Times, is made mobile compatible so that doctors could answer the survey questions from their mobile phones as well. The findings of the survey are expected to be out by February-March 2014. indiamedicaltimes/2013/09/02/a-survey-to-assess-technology-adoption-among-medicos/
