A suspected purse thief was arrested Saturday evening after breaking a car window and taking the purse of a female individual outside Khalom Thai Restaurant in East Agana. The alleged thief has been identified as Steven Gogo Root, 39. The victim had parked her vehicle at the restaurant and returned to find the front drivers side window shattered and her purse missing, a Guam Police Department press release states. The victim and a friend had noted the thief was driving a gray Honda Civic, in which he was the sole passenger. The vehicles license plate number was taken by the victim who provided the information to the officers, the release states. Patrol officers assisted in pursuit of the vehicle. A Hagatna precinct patrol officer noticed the vehicle within the intersection of Route 4 and Route 10 in Mangilao. According to the release, the suspect vehicle refused to pull over and proceeded to elude the officer. Other patrol officers assisted in the pursuit, in which the subject vehicle came to a stop on Price Road in Mangilao. The victims purse was found 50 feet from the subject vehicle. Officers also discovered a glass smoking apparatus with suspected methamphetamine.
