A tacky object without an obvious purpose, the original slant step - TopicsExpress

A tacky object without an obvious purpose, the original slant step was purchased by William Wiley for fifty cents at a Marin County junk shop in 1965. Covered in green linoleum, the slant step became an unlikely cult object and inspiration for Northern California artists, who perhaps saw in it a reflection of the absurdity of their own artistic projects. This is Wileys interpretation in concrete. (Visited Oakland Museum of California, there was an exhibit of work from a group of funk artists active at UC Davis mid 60s-70s - I caught tail end, and it may have fed the creative Davis/campus vibe the music scene grew in)
