A taste of both worlds yday : Christmas visitors late morning, Heather McDonald & John Harley bearing gifts including churn of egg nog manufactured overnight which we tippled on the verandah beneath the Chinese lanterns & bunting Loretta had strung up for the occasion --Robert Kenny & pooch with us with Heathmont reds & Ballarat beers --nibbles aplenty, for example squares of pumpernickel with ricotta & pickles, shorbread biscuits, olives, cherries --Sun up & a breeze wafting through the olive, lemon & bay trees --listening to the Where Joy Kills Sorrow favourite CD (with Mick Harvey, Joel Silbersher, Renee Geyer, Uncle Bill, Dave Graney & all) --ah, jolly good company until Robert & the Harleys departed for family & functions elsewhere. Attempts at phonecalls near & far, leave messages --stroll then through the empty streets, Christmas heat, walking off an ounce or two! --Lazy reading & writing afternoon, until decide that, damn it, may as well cook the salmon for Christmas dinner --the wind increases, theres rain, it could be the Old Country after all, especially with Lewis & Hathaway on the case around Oxford on the telly... So, Merry Christmas everybody! And now its heigh ho, off to the Shop we go for the Boxing Day rush! Expecting a queue from the door down to Swanston street! See ya soon!
