I accept Mohammad as a messenger of God, and Ive read the Quran from cover to cover. Islam has never taught about the subjugation of women, about hatred for minorities or non-believers. The institutions of the caliphate and the clergy who corrupted Islam are the ones that made this man-made stuff up and promote it as dogma. In fact, Muhammad taught that the Jews and Christians were His chosen people, and were to be protected by Muslims. Thats in the Quran. Its the same with fundamentalist extremist Christian preachers who teach their congregations about subjugation of women, homophobia, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism and advocacy of domestic violence by stating that women and children are the property of a husband, etc. Did Christ teach any of that? No. This is why I am a Bahai. There is no need for clergy, and in fact we do not have it. Its also a fundamental principle for each individual to investigate the truth for himself, and not rely on the opinion of another fallible human being - be it a preacher, a mullah, a rabbi, a priest, etc.
