A thought from Eric M. Asongwed on this article and the duplicity of justice for blacks in this country (#blacklivesmatter): But wait, we dont know the whole story. Why would they fire this poor police officer without a proper investigation? The student may have been unruly hours before. We dont know the students history. Maybe it was self defense? Maybe this young man has a history of drunken tirades? of course I ask these questions and say these things in jest. As a critical theorist I look at issues from the position power. Who has it? How is it dispersed? etc. etc. This officer was fired immediately. No one question what the student did or what his history was, it was just understood that the action of the police officer was wrong, inappropriate and brutal. No one blamed the victim. So why when it comes to other and more grave incidents of police brutality do leaders not take such expeditious action? Why do we tend to blame the victim in other cases of police brutality?
