A thought-provoking article. Philosophically speaking, I always wondered why most of us yearn to move farther & farther away from our lives epicenters in our quest to expand our horizons & long for the identity we left behind at the start point. Globalization is our success as the human race, but a curb to our cultural egos. Generally speaking, its like Heisenbergs uncertainty principle & other universal paradoxes. In exercising the right to be individualistic, we fail to belong to the greater picture .. & if we do try to fit in, we cant completely be ourselves. Especially in societies like America. When its personal identity & societal identity, one just cannot seem to be able to have both nowadays. (In the pursuit of trying, people like me own two fb profiles, one for the people we have a cultural connection with, the other for the rest. A double life, yes, but better than living half a life with either kind.)
