A three year full-time postgraduate studentship commencing in Autumn 2013 is available under the HRB Research Awards scheme to undertake a PhD within the “Group Self Management Programme for Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain in Primary Care using the MRC Guidance for Evaluation of Complex Interventions” project. The overall research project aims to develop, evaluate and implement an enhanced group-based education & exercise programme for patients with chronic low back pain and osteoarthritis by a feasibility randomised controlled trial. The advertised postgraduate studentship will focus on the application of behaviour change theory to interventions for musculoskeletal populations. Selection Criteria The successful candidate will hold a BScPhysiotherapy Honours degree (2H1 or better), and an MSc in a health-related area. They should be motivated to undertake postgraduate research, have clinical experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, as well as excellent communication and IT skills. Research training and experience in critical appraisal, protocol development and execution in a clinical setting, data management and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, writing for publication and conference presentation will be provided. Funding The value of the PhD studentship is €22,000/yr from which the student will be required to pay tuition fees of €6,000 (EEA citizen) or €12,000 (nonEEA). Opportunities to generate additional income as a Tutor/Demonstrator are available, as well as support for continuation of clinical work for the successful candidate.
