A throwback on program streamlining/restructuring Heres a throwback article (2002) on the immediate closure of the famous Center for Contemporary Cultural Studies (CCCS), the birthplace of the Cultural Studies program known in the world at the University of Birmingham, for the most sane reason of low performance rankings! This glaring incident is a proof of the program streamlining/restructuring planned by the administration in the upcoming years of the University. It would not be a surprise anymore to see how a certain course/program/Department, continuously ranked as non-marketable, would also face its sudden demise. The university sets its priorities in further choosing to neoliberalize the universitys system and sell its land assets to private companies. The lobbying of a full budget in all aspects of education within the university system should be the main focus, as such lack would further increase the risk of tuition hikes, additional miscellaneous fees, program closures, academic calendar shifts, and passage of anti-poor policies to the students, who shall carry the burden as highest stakeholders in this University of the People.
